Today we’d like to introduce you to Curtis Jordan.
Hi Curtis, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I have never made a film before and I have never written a screenplay before. I read an article about Ann Gregory in 1991 that made me wonder why I had not heard of her before as she was such a pioneer in golf, race, and women empowerment. This film is a fictional film based on Ann’s life.
I always wanted someone else to write it but finally in 2016 after retiring I realized if I did not do it, it wasn’t going to get done. We filmed the movie in Sarasota in May ‘21. We partnered with the performing arts in Sarasota; Ringling College of Art and Design, Westcoast Black Theatre, and the Sarasota Opera. Laurel Oak CC allowed us to use their golf course and by the end of the shoot, we had the Sarasota community behind our project.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No. We had a very small budget and limited time. We were very lucky to have got as much in during the 20 days of filming as we did. The editing process took almost 8 months with many stops and starts.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I spent my life (45 years) as a Rowing coach for Princeton University and the US Olympic Team. I retired in 2016.
Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
Hunting and fishing with my dad.
